B'nai (Bar- and Bat-) Mitzvahs

Olney Kehila B'nai Mitzvah ceremonies are engaging and inclusive, include core traditional elements of a Shabbat prayer service, and offer myriad leadership opportunities to the child or adult being called to the Torah as a Bar or Bat Mitzvah. B'nai Mitzvah students are guided in a preparation process tailored to their individual learning-styles and desires, and families are invited and encouraged to be active participants in many elements of this process.

In addition to learning and leading core Shabbat prayers, B'nai Mitzvah students chant from Torah and deliver a D'var Torah to their community. Students complete a mitzvah project that includes community service work of personal signficance to them and involving the wider Olney Kehila community wherever possible.
